The Grizzlies defeated the Mavericks 120-106, securing a first-round playoff matchup against the Thunder.

Ja Morant overcame a sprained right ankle to deliver 22 points and nine assists, leading the Memphis Grizzlies to a 120-106 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night and clinching a spot in the NBA playoffs.

With the win, Memphis locked in the Western Conference’s No. 8 seed and will face the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in a best-of-seven first-round series starting Sunday on the Thunder’s home court.

Morant, who suffered the ankle injury during Tuesday’s play-in game against Golden State, was listed as questionable up until about 30 minutes before tipoff.

“The doctors gave me all the help I needed in the simplest terms,” said Morant. “I wanted to be on the floor. I wanted to play this game and get the win.”

Jaren Jackson Jr. paced the Grizzlies with 24 points, while Desmond Bane also added 22.

Anthony Davis led the Mavericks with 40 points and nine rebounds. Klay Thompson chipped in 18 points. Davis exited in the fourth quarter with an apparent right calf injury, briefly returned, but ultimately did not finish the game. He was later seen in the locker room with his leg wrapped and iced. “I tried to fight through it,” Davis said. “It was win or go home.”
